DIY Glittery Heels

If you read my last post or have been following me on twitter then you may have known about me DIYing a pair of shoes and making them all glittery!
Since making them I have had loads of people asking me how I did it,  so here is a step by step guide on how I achieved my beautiful glittery shoes, which I’m actually really proud of!glitter shoes 004

What you will need
  • Shoes. Obviously
  • Masking tape - I didn’t have any so used black tape or you could probably use a good sellotape
  • Carrier bags
  • Glitter
  • PVA Glue
  • A tray
  • Clear Sealer Spray Hi-Gloss
I’ve been looking around a while now for a pair of shoes which were cheap because I didn’t have any unwanted shoes that I wanted to glitterfy. If you do have any shoes unwanted shoes then I would recommend using them. I found my perfect pair at Newlook for a bargainous £9. I’ve tried to look these up online but they’re not on the site anymore :(

The first thing I did was take black tape and put it carefully around the edges of the shoe and any places that I didn’t want the glitter. This is what will make them look professional. Instead of putting the tape at the bottom of the shoe and heel I covered it with a carrier bag as I didn’t have much tape left. If your using masking tape I would just use that.  I also made a big mistake by taking off the price sticker on the bottom on the shoe, don’t take this off until you have completely finished otherwise you’ll end up with glitter sticking to it.DSC_4286I stuffed the shoes with carrier bags so no unwanted glitter would go inside.DSC_4302 These shoes are a fabric or satin, I’m not quite sure, but if your using patent shoes then this would be the time to sand them down to make sure the glitter and glue will stick to it properly.

It’s now time for glitter! I used black holographic glitter mixed in with normal black glitter (eBay link here) The holographic glitter MADE these shoes, if I hadn’t used it I don’t think it would have looked half as good, fo’ reals. DSC_4307 I used a brush and applied the PVA glue all over the shoe and then just shook the glitter over the shoes and banged off the excess onto a tray. I did this over a tray so it makes it a little tidier and you can put the excess glitter back into the bowl or whatever your using. In hindsight I should of used a glitter shaker to get a more lighter even coverage.

DSC_4322DSC_4331 I left them to dry for a day (I wouldn’t put them on a radiator I was just taking a picture from there)DSC_4333 The next morning I did another coat of glitter and left it to dry.
I needed something to finished off the shoes and make the glitter stay in place. I did my bit of research online and came across this...glittery shoes 006glittery shoes 007 It's a ‘Clear Sealer Spray Hi-Gloss’ so basically seals the glitter and makes its hard. I bought it from B&Q. The woman at the shop thinks that the design of the bottle has been recently updated and that’s why it looks different on the website but it defiantly did its job.
I sprayed them outside before I went to work Thursday afternoon, I came home and sprayed them again about 9 o’clock and then sprayed them again the following morning. I did it this amount of times to make sure minimal glitter fell off when I wore them out that evening.

That's it, the finished product! I’m so happy with these shoes. When I wore them out Friday I had lots of complements and what made it better is that I did it myself! People were actually shocked and thought they looked shop quality which is just crazy! In total I only spent about £20 which is mad thinking that I was going to splash out £60+. I have still got half of each glitter left so I’ve used about 40g on these shoes and I did a pair of my mothers, so it’s not really that much.

I’m defiantly going to glitterfy another pair of shoes (maybe a different colour next time) or even make a matching bag.. Oooh the possibilities!

I really hope this was helpful and if you’ve done this before then tell me what you did or if your going to attempt it then send me a picture or link me to your blog!

DIY Glitter Heels

AHHH MAA GAWD. I love glitter! hahaha
I just DIY glittery shoes and couldn’t wait to show some snaps. If you follow me on twitter then you’ve probably seen my tweets about these shoes a few hours ago, but I had to show you proper pictures rather than the shoody ones on my phone as they looked rubbish. I just can’t get over how well they’ve turned out. I know this may sound really superficial but every time I look at them I just can’t stop smiling, yes I know, v. superficial.

They aren’t finished yet, I need to top up some patches with glitter when the glue had dried and I also have to buy some spray adhesive so that all the glitter won’t fall off when I wear them out. Which hopefully won’t take long as I’m planning to wear them Friday :) I’ll then write a post on how I achieved these super sparkly shoes as I know they cost a bomb in the shop. I was actually going to buy these from Schuh but they didn’t fit. My next move was TopShop but then I came to my senses and realised instead of splashing £60+ on a pair of heels why don’t I just make them myself!? Woohoo to creativity. These shoes only cost me £9 from New Look, hated the design but love, love, love the style.

Hope you love them as much as I do!

PS. the bright green stuff is just an M&S carrier bag to protect the bits I didn't want glitterfied!
